Studies demonstrate that the chromium/iron ratio in Duplex 2205 SS improves after electropolishing. Additionally, two separate studies reveal that electropolishing, followed by passivation, provides the best defense against pitting corrosion.
Examinations of low-alloyed Duplex have also revealed that during mechanical grinding and/or polishing, the austenitic phase on the steel surface can transform into martensite. Similar investigations indicate that this transformation does not occur during electropolishing.
